Professional

The Icelandic Association of Physical Therapists is a diverse and powerful network of professionals who work together to advance the profession.

The Association of Physiotherapists is divided into a professional section and a wage section, and it is assumed that physiotherapists are members of both.

Professional membership is only for physical therapists who, for some reason, work in a field other than physical therapy and receive salaries under contracts other than those handled by the association, but who nevertheless wish to maintain their professional connection with the association.

The role of the faculty

The association's professional department is a strong advocate for physiotherapists, monitors and participates in discussions about their issues, and safeguards the professional title and quality of physiotherapy. The professional department also promotes the education and continuing education of physiotherapists and the development of physiotherapy as a discipline with social responsibility and the interests of the public as its guiding principles.

The professional department promotes the work of physical therapists and works to enhance the image of the Icelandic Association of Physical Therapists and the profession in society, including through active participation in public debate and promotion of the work of physical therapists.

Within the professional department, there are sub-associations and professional groups working in various fields of physiotherapy. The professional department organizes Physiotherapy Day annually and is also part of the educational committee, which organizes numerous ambitious continuing education courses each year. The professional department is responsible for Sjúkrathíffaran, a physiotherapist magazine.

Nordic, European and international cooperation takes place on a professional basis, and physiotherapists are widely required to be members of a professional association of physiotherapists in their home country, in order to have the opportunity to participate in studies, courses and conferences abroad.
