The Icelandic Association of Physiotherapists has published both a professional journal on physiotherapy and educational brochures for the public.

The physical therapist

The Physiotherapist is the professional journal of the Icelandic Physiotherapists Association and is published twice a year. The journal has been in the hands of the association's editorial board, which is elected at the association's annual general meeting.

In 1975, the society began publishing a professional journal called Félagsmiðill. In the early years, it was printed in duplicate and published 2 issues per year. The layout was changed in 1983, 1990 and 1997. The name was changed in 1997 and is now called Sjúkrathjálfarinn. In 2000, the journal's cover page began to be printed in color. The editorial boards in recent years have been:

2013 SLF Training Center2014 Icelandic Physiotherapy, Energy House2015 Reykjavík / Gardabaer Physiotherapy and ATLAS Rehabilitation2016 Eir Nursing Home2017 Reykjalundur2018 Physiotherapy Association for Psychosocial Health - FSSH2019 Professional Group on Cancer Intelligence2020 Northern Division of the Icelandic Physiotherapy Association2021: Kristín Magnúsdóttir, Klara Einarsdóttir and Sólveig Steinunn Pálsdóttir2022: Hjörtur Ragnarsson and Þóra Kristín Bergsdóttir2023: Hjörtur Ragnarsson, Þóra Kristín Bergsdóttir and Kristín Reynisdóttir

The physiotherapist's project manager is on leave, please send an email to sjukrathjalfun@sjukrathjalfun.is

A new step was taken in 2014 and from now on, peer-reviewed articles will be published in Sjúkrathjálfarinn as material becomes available. The first academic editorial board has already been appointed by the FS board. The academic editorial board of the journal was chaired by Ragnheiður Harpa Arnardóttir. Since 2017, Dr. Guðný Lilja Oddsdóttir has replaced her on the committee. Along with Guðný on the committee are Dr. Sólveig Ása Árnadóttir and Þjóðbjörg Guðjónsdóttir MSc. from the University of Iceland, who did all the preparatory work regarding the peer review and are therefore fully aware of all the criteria that need to be in place for it to be successful.

The academic editorial board will work alongside the traditional editorial board, which will continue to rotate between workplaces, as has been the case. The role of the academic editorial board will therefore be to oversee the articles submitted for peer review, find peer reviews, and follow up on issues until an article is either accepted for publication or rejected. Physiotherapists who may be asked to undertake peer review are strongly encouraged to take the time to do so and thus contribute to making this dream a reality.

Seminars at the People's Meeting, September 2017

On September 8th and 9th, 2017, the Icelandic Association of Physiotherapists participated in the People's Meeting in Akureyri. The People's Meeting is a dialogue between the third sector, NGOs, stakeholders, politicians and the public about all the issues that are burning in the public and society at any given time.

The Icelandic Association of Physiotherapists hosted two seminars, one on health promotion for the elderly and the importance of promoting the fitness of senior citizens for as long as possible, and the other on the involvement of physiotherapists in multidisciplinary healthcare.
