Specialist license
In order to be called a physiotherapist and work as such in Iceland, the person must have completed a master's or doctoral degree from a university recognized by the health authorities or offering a comparable education here. The study must have been largely within the specialty or field in which the specialist license is being applied for and a certificate of completion must have been obtained in that specialty. Before applying for the license, the person must have worked as a physiotherapist for two years full-time in the relevant specialty after completing the specialist education.

- Psychiatric treatment
- Rheumatology physiotherapy
- Health and safety at work
- Cardiac physiotherapy
- Diagnosis and treatment of the spine and extremities (Manual Therapy)
- Pulmonary physiotherapy
- Pregnancy and childbirth physiotherapy
- Neurological physiotherapy
- Geriatric physiotherapy
- Sports physiotherapy
- Intensive care physiotherapy
