Office

Organizations that are members of SIGL

A cooperation agreement was made between these four companies to operate a joint service office, SIGL (the initials of the four companies).

Icelandic Association of Physiotherapists, Icelandic Occupational Therapy Association, Icelandic Association of Radiologists, Icelandic Association of Biomedical Engineers

The agreement was signed on September 30, 2003, and the office officially began operations on October 1 of the same year.

The establishment of the service office had a considerable amount of precedent and, at the suggestion of Halldóra Friðjónsdóttir, chairwoman of BHM, and Gísli Tryggvason, vice-chairman of BHM, negotiations were initiated between these four associations at the turn of the year 2002/2003. It soon became clear that they had many things in common and their representatives found strength in this collaboration, while also seeking a model from the current service office of five BHM associations, Huggarður, which has proven to have many good advantages.

THE GOALS WERE AND ARE MAINLY:

  • To streamline office operations and improve service to union members.
  • To build, develop and maintain knowledge of wage and rights issues.
  • To improve access to services and information for members and elected representatives.
  • To coordinate the efforts of unions in related sectors.
  • Improving data and document storage.
  • To facilitate the work of elected representatives on boards and committees.

DUE TO CHANGING CIRCUMSTANCES, THIS AGREEMENT HAS BEEN AMENDED TWICE SINCE AND ALL OF THESE AGREEMENTS ARE HEREBY REFERRED TO.
